At the beginning of November, 18 bcm of gas are stored in Ukrainian UGS - 13% more vs average 2011-2019

As of November 1, 2021, the volume of gas in underground storage facilities of Ukraine reached 18 bcm*. This level of UGS filling is 13% higher vs average for 2011-2019 and confirms the readiness of the Ukrainian UGS network to pass the winter under the condition of a stable situation in the overall energy balance of Ukraine.

Gas withdrawal

In October 2020, 0.7 bcm of gas was physically withdrawn from Ukrainian UGS. This is 3.5 times higher YoY. This difference is explained by two factors. Firstly, this year withdrawal season started two weeks earlier YoY. Secondly, in autumn, non-resident companies re-exported part of their reserves for further sale on the EU gas market during a period of peak gas prices.

Natural gas reserve in UGS

As of November 1, 2021, the natural gas reserve in UGS totaled 18 bcm*. This is 36% less vs last 2020, which, let us remind you, broke the ten-year record for the level of formed reserves. Yet, this indicator is 13% higher vs UGS filling average level in 2011-2019.

Use of “Customs Warehouse” ** and “short-haul” *** services

2021, foreign traders were storing 2 bcm of gas under the “Customs Warehouse” regime. This is 5 times less YoY. This includes 1.6 bcm accumulated in the “short-haul” regime. As of November 1,

Resident companies were storing 0.7 bcm of gas in the “Customs Warehouse” regime, which is 1.5 times less YoY. This includes 0.6 bcm accumulated in the “short-haul” regime.

* w/o reserves of Verhunske UGS, located on temporarily occupied territory;

** “Customs Warehouse” is a custom regime, which allows the customer to save natural gas in storage facilities of Ukraine up to 1095 days without paying taxes and customs duties;

*** “Short haul” is a service that gives the opportunity to receive a discount on transportation between certain points of entry or exit on inter-state connections (capacity with restrictions), including for further storage of natural gas in UGS of Ukraine.
