Ukrtransgaz launched modernization of Hrebeniki gas metering station at the border with Moldova

October 18, 2019, Kyiv - Ukrtransgaz started works on the modification of the Hrebeniki gas metering station, located on the border with Moldova in the Odesa region. A new gas pipeline will be installed at the facility to ensure reverse gas measurements without changes to the gas metering equipment. The project scheduled finish date is November 1.

This modification allows Ukraine to be safely prepared for the heating season 2019/2020, in particular in case of the gas transit interruption from the Russian Federation side and, besides, to diversify gas flows into Ukraine. All works are carried out under the CESEC initiative, which envisages the provision of natural gas transportation through trans-Balkan pipelines in the reverse direction from Greece through Bulgaria and Romania to Ukraine and Moldova.

Moreover, this route is attractive for market participants - in 2018, Ukrtransgaz successfully evaluated the demand for input capacity to Ukraine from Romania and confirmed the economic feasibility of creating such capacity on the Trans-Balkan route.

Hrebinki gas metering station is involved in the transportation of gas across the border Ukraine - Moldova. The modernization of the technological pipeline linkage of the compressor station will significantly improve the maneuverability and reliability of the gas transmission system operator in the face of termination of Russian gas transit from January 1, 2020. The station’s design capacity will be 70 million cubic meters per day in averse mode and 4 million cubic meters per day in reverse way from Moldova.
